Did you know we have SID in the Parish? Who is SID? Well, SID is a battery/solar operated radar device that detects the speed of vehicles traveling along the road. Not only does it record the speed of vehicles travelling towards the sign (and gives an appropriate message to the drivers), but it also detects the speed of vehicle travelling in the opposite direction away from the sign too!
The system records the volume of vehicles passing the sign in each direction at certain intervals, the average and maximum speeds and the date and time.
At the moment we have 3 Solar SID devices and they are situated where Suffolk County Council advised us to place them, all within 30mph zones:
- North End of Brockford Street (A140)
- South End of Brockford Street (A140)
- Top of Hockey Hill, Wetheringsett

We believe use of these has slowed the traffic down within those areas, although we still do get some very high recordings. The data is downloaded regularly and we will share it on our website for everyone to read. Just click on the relevant button below to read the reports.

In addition, we have a Vehicle Activated Sign (VAS), which is an electronic sign, only visible when approaching motor vehicles are exceeding a certain speed. This is situated in Wetherup Street.
