If you are in immediate danger call 999
Purpose
The aim of the Concise Community Emergency Plan is to increase resilience within our local community before, during and after emergencies and to link into the emergency response structures already established by the Emergency Services and Mid Suffolk District Council.
It is not the role of the community to take on the responsibilities of these agencies e.g. to save life, to take any risks to themselves or to cope for long hours without agencies’ help and support.
Household Emergency Plans
The ability of a community to respond to and recover from emergencies is closely linked to how well individuals and households can respond. We also strongly recommend residents to make their own Household Emergency Plans.

Village Hall, Hockey Hill, Wetheringsett Cum Brockford, Suffolk, IP14 5PL Keyholders – Sue Stannard (01449 767752 / 07789 960483) and Charles Harvey (01728 861877 / 07831 467268) District councils are responsible for setting up a central rest centre during an emergency. However, it may be necessary to set up a temporary place of safety within the community e.g. for visitors or for people evacuated from their homes. |

| Activation of the Plan | Activation of the Plan would normally be made by the Emergency Services or the Local Authority, however if common-sense indicates implementation is necessary then this should be done straight away. During an emergency, volunteers will keep a record of actions taken. These will be entered in to a central log, kept by the Parish Council, so that they can be evaluated, and the plan altered if necessary. |
| First Actions | Set up a coordinating group to include at least one member of the Parish Council. Inform the Emergency Services Centre on 0300 1234000 and dialling 101 or 999. (www.suffolkresilience.com) Establish a contact telephone number which can be staffed at all times. In the event of power failure, a ‘hard-wired’ land-line will be needed for emergency contact. Or use radios in the Village Hall and distribute as necessary dependant on Emergency situation. An Emergency Pack kept in a yellow bag is held at the Village Hall. It contains all the necessary items to run a Community Emergency Incident. |
| Staying in Contact if the usual means have been disrupted | For an extended evacuation a community control centre may be necessary, probably in the Village Hall. Assume mobile phones will be inoperable for extended time, so consider using radios held at the Village Hall and/or runners/cyclists/drivers (dependant on safety for Emergency) to pass messages. Consider passing messages in pairs for safety. Social media (if available) could be used for communication – i.e. Parish Council Website Wetheringsett-cum-Brockford Facebook along with Village Hall Facebook and Website. |
| Other Information | Volunteers should work in pairs for safety. If extended time, plan extra volunteers to cover all hours including overnight. Use your initiative, but always tell someone what you are doing and record decisions. Large maps of the village can be found at the Village Hall in the yellow emergency bag. Any media interviews should be co-ordinated through the Emergency Services press officer. |
